Often referred to as external growth, the principle is to avoid the time needed and risk involved for the organisation to establish a market position entirely from the beginning.
External growth is realised either through obtaining assets that enable the company to immediately serve a new market, by sharing assets with others or by working together for the benefit of both.
While the identification of suitable alliance, merger of acquisition partners is critical to its success, this tool can be used exclusively at the strategic level and requires substantial verification.
